Susanne Szambelan

Cello Tutor

“Flawless intonation, fine mastery of colours and dynamics, nobility of the tone and intimacy of expression unites”: with those words, Pizzicato Magazine describes Susanne’s debut album which she released in 2013 for the Polish label DUX, featuring Dvořák's Cello Concerto.

Polish cellist Susanne Szambelan was born in New York and grew up in Poznan. In 2014 Susanne moved to Berlin, where she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” with Prof. Stephan Forck and Prof. Claudio Bohorquez.

Her great passion for chamber music has led to performances with artists such as Boris Brovtsyn, Daniel Hope and Scharoun Ensemble. 2021/24 Susanne is the scholarship holder of the chamber music program Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutsche Orchester-Stiftung #MusikerZukunft as a solo artist 2023. She was also a scholarship holder at the Kurt Sanderling Academy of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin 2022/23.

Susanne has performed at festivals such as the Krzyżowa-Music, Santander and Zermatt Festival. Her solo and chamber music performances have been broadcast on ARTE Concert and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, among others. In 2023 she gave a recital at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg.

Thanks to the Villa Musica scholarship, Susanne plays a cello by Jean- Baptiste Vuillaume.
