Eri Sugita
Viola Tutor
Eri Sugita was born in Kobe, Japan. She studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, the Kronberg Academy, the Universität der Künste Berlin, Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien Hannover.
She is a founding member of the Quartet Berlin-Tokyo and has been awarded prizes in numerous competitions, including the Special Prize at the ARD International Music Competition, 2nd Prize at the International "Salieri-Zinetti" Competition in Verona, 1st Prize at the Orlando International String Quartet Competition, 3rd Prize at the International Competition "Franz Schubert and the Music of the Modern Era" in Graz, 2nd Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen, the "HSBC Laureates 2015" at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in France, 3rd Prize at the Joseph Joachim Competition in Weimar, Special Prize at the International String Quartet Competition Bordeaux, and Banff.
Furthermore, she has performed at numerous festivals such as the Heidelberg Spring, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, and the Sommerliche Musiktagen Hitzacker. As a soloist, she has performed with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sinfonietta Frankfurt, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, and the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. She has worked as sub-principal Viola with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others.
As a guest solo viola, she has collaborated with the Berlin Konzerthaus Chamber Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, etc. Eri's musical education has been influenced by Yu Nishiwada, Koichiro Harada, Nobuo Okada, Nobuko Imai, Hartmut Rohde, Amihai Grosz, and Oliver Wille.
In 2022, she was awarded the Sakai Tokitada Prize. She released a digital album for Solo Viola by Orpheus Classical.
