Born in Saitama, Japan, she started her career as a pianist at the age of four. After finishing her bachelor’s degree in piano performance at the Tokyo College of Music, she was accepted into the prestigious solo class of Prof. Bernd Goetzke at the University of Music, Theater and Media Hannover. She completed this with the concert exam in February 2018. She also studied at the Accademia Musicale Pescarese in Pescara, Italy with Prof. Bruno Mezzena.
As a soloist and an active chamber musician, Miwa played on extensive concert tours in Japan, Southeast Asia, USA and Europe, for example in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Finland, Cyprus and the Netherlands.
She works regularly with the conductor Eiji Oue (Honorary Conductor of the NDR Radio Philharmonic and Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra), for example at the annual Osaka Classic Festival or at the Classic Festival Hiroshima. In 2017, she performed the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Liszt in Hannover under his direction. She also showed her skills at the Ticino Musica Festival in Switzerland, the Musica Riva Festival in Italy, the NDR Music Days Hannover and the Bangkok International Piano Festival in Thailand.
Miwa won various competitions, including the IBLA Grand Prize International Music Competition 2014 in Ragusa, Sicily. The success of the 1st prize helped Miwa to her first tour through the United States of America and to her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, which received unanimous praise from the critics. Her debut at the Concertgebouw in the Netherlands was broadcast on Dutch Radio 4. Other prizes she won are the 1st prize in the 11th International Music Competition Luigi Cerritelli 2014, the Martinu Prize in the Grieg Piano Competition in Norway 2009, and a bronze medal in the PTNA Piano Competition in Tokyo 2007.
In January 2016, Miwa released her debut CD “Farben”.
Currently, Miwa is also involved at the University of Music, Theater and Media Hannover, as a piano accompanist for the conducting and horn sections.
